Two weeks back my husband was stricken with food poisoning and if you’ve ever had the stomach flu or gastritis then you know actually how this might have felt! This sudden sickness struck him when all sickness seems to bubble up, around midnight!
At the time we were just loaned out the Mazda CX-9 for review so I was up for any reason to drive this car to and from. So at midnight with a sick husband and half sleep preschooler we all piled into the new 3 row Mazda CX-9 comfortably. Doll snuggled up in the back seat against the armrest as the hubs reclined the seat back and set the lumbar system to “COMFORT”!
Once we arrive to the ER I was mentally prepared for a room filled with people, long waits and nasty nurses. Instead we were greeted with a quiet empty waiting room, a smiling face nurse and the quickest triage and check-in ever! We sat in the back of an extremely cold room waiting for the doctor to give us the news on what was happening. As the hubs laid cloaked in 3 warm blankets and doll and I settled in a makeshift bed that I created with a rolling stool, stable chair and 1 warm blanket I shifted uncomfortably as the pressure of Doll and the non-cushion chair pained my body!
Time ticketed away and before you knew it, it was 3 am and the hubs was now hooked up to an IV that needed to be finished in its entirety! I looked at him with sleepy eyes and a panning bottom and said, “Are you ok”? He replied “I feel better now”! With an aching back and a heavy 4-year-old on top of me I told him “we are going to go and sleep in the car”! He chuckled and politely said “ok”.
As I walked to the Mazda CX-9 I realized that my initial thought to sleep in the comfortable seat should be trumped by simply dropping the 3rd row! I ask Doll, “Want to sleep in the trunk while we wait for daddy”? Her eyes light up with excitement as I dropped the back row and we climbed in. I just so happen to have a blanket in the car and Doll grabbed her pillow pet as we shifted like two Tetris pieces, curving our bodies to lie in the trunk of the CX-9. I must say surprisingly, when the 3rd row is down it’s rather spacious and comfortable. Before you knew it the hubs was ringing my phone and we were heading back into the house.
Later that week I had a chance to see just what the Mazda-CX9 could do and if you followed me on Snapchat then you to go to take some personal tours! Although my family is a family of 3 this car fit us perfectly. When we didn’t need the 3rd row we simply drop the seats which gave us ample room for grocery shopping! Doll has returned to school and we started making daily lunches so we filled the trunk with back to school! Anyone who knows me knows that I am a shopper so this truck got a serious workout! Inside of the truck there is a hidden compartment which was perfect for those runs when I didn’t want to take my purse inside. I simply placed it inside of the hidden trunk compartment and it was out of sight!
With each car I review I like to point out my favorite features. In the Mazda CX-9 my favorite features were the beautiful oxblood colored interior! The exterior was Sonic Silver and the interior was Auburn. I personally would have never put the two colors together, however the contracts of dark and light was absolutely beautiful! The back windows were slightly tinted which meant Doll could make silly faces all day to passing cars and no one would know! She got a kick out that and took advantage every time we were in the Mazda. My last favorite feature was the reclining seats in the rear. We actually spent a total of 2 nights sleeping in the CX-9. The Saturday morning we checked hubs into the ER and got out at 4am, we had to return again at 9pm that night because Doll was complaining of stomach pains. While at the ER the Hubs got worst and had to be re-emitted! When Doll got better we once again had to wait on the hubs and guess what made for a comfortable and warm bed, the back of the CX-9! The back seats recline and the middle console which I dubbed the “snack shop” provided nosh and rest!
Over all that weekend was a crazy one, but because we had a comfortable car to relax in during this whole ordeal it made it a bit more manageable! This was not how I planned to spend my weekend getting to know the CX-9 but let’s be honest as a mom and wife your plans always change and the CX-9 made that life moment a little more tolerable! Comfort IS everything!
